What do you long for?

This blog site is actually dedicated to the sacred Scripture. I believe without any doubt that the Bible is the very Word of God; God breathed (II Tim. 3:16-17). God’s Word is a wonderful resource to each one of us. It is full of treasure for those willing to read it’s intent, and wisdom for those who apply it’s principles to life. Like Paul, “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation…” (Rom. 1:16).

Early in my Christian experience (when I was a newbie in the faith) I was reading through the Psalms, and I came across Psalm 42:1-2,

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. May soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?”

For years I really didn’t get this Psalm in its entirety, until one day in South Dakota, in the Black Hills between Rapid City and Deadwood, I was standing in a large meadow, and I heard something running, and when I turned around there was a deer in a full run. and I kid you not – at first glance I thought he had a fish hanging out of his mouth. As I watched him run I could tell that it wasn’t a fish, but his tongue was hanging out his mouth. This deer was literally panting, and panting very loud. It was also running very near a stream that cut through the property I was on. That picture that day helped me understand these two verses.

As the deer pants for the water brooks. I know the deer that I saw that day was extremely thirsty. How about you and I – what do we thirst for today? The very next line in the verse reads, “So pants my soul for You, O God.” It has allays been this pastor’s heart to “pant” for God. As the deer thirst for water, so may my soul, and your soul, thirst for God. We must never ever think we have enough of God. No, pant for Him – Go after Him each and every day. Just as the deer needs water every day, so you and I need a fresh encounter with God every day.

Where has your encounter with God been today? Can you actually think of a moment today where you knew that you encountered God? Are you thirsty right now? The Psalmist writes, “MY soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”

Below I have provided you the song with the title: As the Deer, and below the lyrics you can actually hear this song. Right now, take the needed time to read through the lyrics, and then pause and listen to the song, and as you do will you tell God how much you “pant” after Him?

AS THE DEER

As the deer panteth for the water,
So my soul longs after you
You alone are my hearts desire,
And I long to worship You.

Chorus:
You alone are my strength, my shield;
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my hearts desire,
And I long to worship You.

I want you more than gold or silver,
Only You can satisfy
You alone are the real joy giver
And the apple of my eye.

Chorus:
You alone are my strength, my shield;
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my hearts desire,
And I long to worship You.

You’re my friend and You’re my brother,
Even though you are a King
I love You more than any other
So much more than anything.

Chorus:
You alone are my strength, my shield;
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my hearts desire,
And I long to worship You.
