Where are you with CULTURE?

Where are you and I when it comes to culture? I hear people on the West and East Coasts talk about people living inland (country living), and they say things like, “You’re not very cultured”, or “Where you live, lacks culture”. I hear those statements and I literally laugh inside (I have a real: lol moment). According to some people the more you embrace culture, the more cultured you are. Really? I’m not sure we should buy into that thought pattern. Take a look at the statement below: images-11

I think I can agree with that statement. Our culture will often determine our values. Just think of how we have watched the slippery slop of events happen here in America. We have seen how culture shapes our values in a wide variety of ways, everything from drug use in Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and Alaska, to legalization to same sex marriage by the vote of the Supreme Court of the United States. Will culture continue to shape America and Americans?

I am so surprised to listen to people talk, and they are of the opinion that they are not affected by their culture. What you embrace in your culture will shape your values. This is why in America we can kill babies in the womb, and then market their parts for financial gain. As if Congress should have an issue about shutting down Planned Parenthood.

We talk about a responsible culture. Have you ever heard those words before? You see, what you and I embrace in our present day culture will determine how we live tomorrow. I remember a program in the schools called: D.A.R.E. – Drug Abuse Resistance Education. The goal was to help kids to say no to peers who may try to get them to do drugs. Excuse me – we now have state approved drug dispensaries! How has culture played a role in that one? Sorry, maybe I should just be quiet and sweep it under a rug somewhere. The topic may get a little difficult to talk about.

Culture tells us all the time that if it legal, that it is permissible. Are you aware that the Bible says, “All things are lawful, but not all things are helpful.” (I Cor. 6:12). How is culture shaping your values? What are you embracing today that you would have never dreamed of accepting ten years ago?

Picture two arrows going into the opposite direction. The arrow on the left is our modern day culture (that does pierce our values) – it flies at a rapid speed. The second arrow in the right is YOU. Here are three ways we can deal with our culture: 1. Soar above culture. 2. Become like your culture. 3.  Seek to change your culture.

Consider the following slides:

Well, I hope that I have provided us some things to think about. I truly believe that God has called us to engage our culture, but NOT to become like our culture. Far too many Christians have become like culture and have embraced the values that go along with it.

Paul wrote, “Be not conformed to this world, but be transformed.” (Romans 12:2)

Conformed or Transformed? Which describes you right now?

SCOTUS Decision – The impetus for Coming CHANGE in America

SCOTUSThe Supreme Cout of the United States doesn’t always get it right, and this time they got it wrong. They got it very wrong. My understanding of law is that there must be a precedence, and there was, over thousands of years of world history, not just US history, but world-wide history that marriage consisted between one man and one woman, or polygamy – one man and many wives. But the truth of the matter is that marriage was between a man and a woman. This time the US Supreme Court in a decision 5-4 got it wrong.

Also their decision doesn’t change the truth that marriage is a union of a man and a woman. Just because something has been made legal by the courts, doesn’t change NATURE, nor does it change God’s laws of humanity. Jesus said, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning made them male and female,” (Matt. 19:4). Evidently some are not well read. Jesus made it abundantly clear – so then, don’t muddy the truth.

As a pastor and a church leader I will NOT cave in to the reshaping of American culture for the sake of the alphabet people who would like to tell us that we are the ones with the problem. They need to stop saying that we are homophobic, I think they are the ones with a phobic – a phobic against natural marriage that has been a part of the world at large for thousands of years. I also believe that they need to stop using their bully media outlets to try to beat us into subjection. Oh, and by the way did you notice that not one Christian set fire, turned over police cars, or destroyed property after the US Supreme Court ruling. I don’t believe it would have been the same had the decision gone the other way. It’s possible that our “Justices” made their decision based on the consequences that would have followed had they gone the other way. It is also possible that this decision was based on kickbacks and bribes. After all, look at the recent Dennis Hastert fiasco. None of this would surprise me.

Its really not over yet. I really believe that we need to think 2016 when we will vote for a new leader of our free society. Its time that we begin to make choices to clean house, both the White House, and the House of Congress. We actually need to vote in some people with backbone, and moral fiber who will take a stand for what is right, in the midst of a society that has lost the whole idea of right and wrong. I mean think about it: We have people who don’t know whether they are male or female, whether they are black or white, and no clue as to what is right to wrong.

Isaiah the prophet penned these words, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil.” (Isa. 5:20).

I believe it might take an event like this to actually wake up the church. Church are you awake now? Have we slept along enough. Do we want to reclaim our America? Let’s do it in 2016. Rally the troop, get your pen ready to making some sweeping changes. It can happen, and it will happen if you and I have had enough of runaway politic and politicians.

Remember the ink on the finger tips of the Iraqi people? Well, lets do something just as amazing here in our nation when we go to the polls next year. Let’s let our votes be heard!

Rise up Christians – Rise up Church.

Moab Pride, Really? Not something to be proud about.

A friend of mine just returned from a vacation from Colorado, and on the way home he and his wife stopped in the town of Moab, Utah. They stopped at several hotels trying to find a place to lay down their heads. Finally after a long search they found a room for $ 186.00 for one night = that’s the price for a bed and a shower. They begin to ask around why so many people were in town, and why all the hotels were booked. The answer: A Gay Convention. Yes, there were gay people everywhere.

My friend and his wife went to a pizza place, and inside the establishment were men holding hands with one another, and two men in a booth towards the back kissing on one another. He told me that it made him sick. He said, “I didn’t know there were so many gay people.”

Yes, gay people are everywhere we look today. The term gay makes it socially acceptable. The word that the Bible uses is homosexual, or sodomite (Romans 1).

I was listening to a sermon today by the late Adrian Rogers. He preached on the topic -The Last Step Down. Sexual perversion of every type was the reason for the fall of the Roman Empire. Today we look around and we see the same thing happening in America. Today people call it a new morality – what was wrong with the old morality? People were healthier, and I would go out on a limb and say, and happier. There are a lot of very sad and depressed homosexual individuals. The answer is not more indulgence – it is discovering a new life through the person of Jesus Christ. Here is how Jesus handled the sexual sin issue – Go and sin no more (See John 8). Pretty simple and clear to me.

I know a mother who had two sons who died from AIDS. Both of them got involved with the homosexual lifestyle because of the money that flows. There is a young man that I know who has used his homosexual lifestyle to appear in porn movies for homosexuals. Yes, there is a terrible price to pay. This guy is not happy, nor healthy. He has on several occasions taken a few two many pills to deaden his conscience.

I am not a scientist, but I can look around me and completely understand that God created all things to procreate, and without this single act the human race would disappear. This is the end product of a homosexual lifestyle. Isn’t it time just to think?

The people of Moab, Utah do not deserve to have to face having their town turned into a homosexual convention. I wonder just what kind of publicity I would receive if I hosted an all heterosexual conference and placed banners on light poles in town that promoted sexual relations between a man and a woman? Now, I just may be onto something!!!

The Bible says, “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions.” (Romans 1:26)

Today we are hearing about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT), and now even people who claim they were born with no gender. Its just sin folks – thats all it is. You can dress up, and go out into the streets, but it doesn’t make it acceptable.

And those are a few of my thoughts today.

Adultery Encouraged

I was preparing a sermon from Hosea 7, and one of the sins that God pointed out that Israel was practicing was adultery. It became common place with the people, and it was a part of their national downfall. Israel went into captivity as a result of their sin and unrepentive heart. Well, you would think that we as Americans could learn from the culture and downfall of others, but I don’t think so. I came across the following commercial that is actually encouraging people to commit adultery – Ashley Madison is a multi-million dollar business encouraging married people to commit adultery. Their tag line is: “Life is short Have an affair” Check out the video:

Who would ever believe that something like this would be encouraged? (Note: The above video is tame compared to others). Adultery is not new to our society. King David committed adultery, and lets not forget the woman caught in the very act of adultery (John 8). People will always cheat (sin) on their spouses, but does our society want to promote it, advertise it on television? Do we want to encourage our spouse, our children’s spouses to contemplate someone else? I don’t think so.

The battle is raging today, and right now all around us SEX is being used to destroy any moral fiber that might remain in us as people. The Bible is clear – David had no peace until he confessed his adultery as sin (Psalm 51). The woman at the well could have been stoned to death – she was caught in the vey act of adultery. Jesus said to her, “go and sin no more.” (John 8:11). What is the truth here for us? The same, “go and sin no more.”

Christians must take a strong stand against all sexual immorality. Adultery is only one shoot off the many roots of the sexual sins facing our society today. Know the Bible, guard your heart, and above all, stay true to your spouse.

Normal: Are we being deceived?

I would like to offer you a free PDF booklet on the topic of homosexuality. We are being told that it is normal, and that its love between two people. Well, it is important that we stop and look at all things through the biblical reference point. It make sense that we consult the owners-creators manual of all life. Bottom line is this – God made male and female, two distinct people, and God Himself brought Adam and Eve together. God performed the first marriage, and it was between a man and a woman. We cannot accept anything less than what is presented in the Bible. People can argue until they are blue in the face, and they can hold up their posters which decry the Biblical stance on sex and humanity, but they can even cry: “homophobic” towards those who hold to a traditional moral code. I do believe that the free PDF booklet that I am offering will provide you with a clear and solid presentation of the battle that we are facing today.

As the US Supreme Court is about to hand down a ruling on two very important cases (Prop 8 out of California, and DOMA) it is my hearts prayer that they take the higher ground. There is a road that leads to destruction and many are on it, and there is a road that leads to life and few are on it (Matt. 7). My concern is should our Justices turn away from thousands of years of world history that the demise of our nation will follow in a very short time.

Homosexuality is a sin and it is a choice. People choose to sin, and they make a choice to practice homosexuality. In the end I am not their judge (Almighty God is), however, I know for a fact that all sin eventually ends in death. I for one encourage people all the time to choose LIFE!

I hope we as citizens of the United States will encourage all of our friends and family members to stop the sin, and start making smarter choices.

What I Believe on Moral issues

Culture Shock doesn’t Shock Us Any More

Man - Sex - God - YaleI was sent an email by a church parishioner. It was entitled: Man, Sex, God, and Yale. It is a book written by Nathan Harden, who spoke at Hillsdale Collage  on September 20, 2012. Nathan shared about a book that was written by William F. Buckley back in 1951, in which he underscored the tention that existed at that time for students attending Yale. Buckley wrote that the academic agenda of Yale at that time was antagonistic towards the Christian worldview, and free enterprise. Now, some 50 years later and Nathan pens a book in which he shares that Yale has move further down the road of “diversity” than Buckley would have ever imagined. He shares in his book what he saw as an undergraduate at Yale. Brace yourself:

  • A classmate was given approval to create an art object out of what she claimed was blood and tissue from self-induced abortions.
  • Professor openly praised terrorist organizations, such as Hamas,  and Hezbollah.
  • Culture of promiscuity reigned – Yale pioneered, “Sex Week”.
  • Hard core Porn was shown in classrooms.
  • Sex toy creators marketed their creations to students on campus.
  • Students held a “Porn Star” look alike contest.
  • Porn star was invited into classroom, and stripped down to bare breasts.

This is all defended by Yale in the name of academic freedom.

Nathan writes that Yale has lost its ability to discern between:

  • Art and pornography
  • Right and wrong

What is left for Yale is what is happening all around us – moral relativism. Noting is right, and nothing is wrong. It is all open to your own desire and what you personally feel is right and wrong.

This is why a sworn enemy of America was invited to become a student at Yale (Sayed Rahmatulla Hashemi. (Check it out). He was a former diplomat at-large for the Taliban.  Sayed in an interview with the New York Times stated, “I could have ended up in Guantanamo Bay. Instead, I ended up at Yale.”

This is a school of higher learning! Really? Understand that according to Nathan that 3 of the last 4 Presidents were graduates of Yale, and that 2 of the last 3 Supreme Court appointees were graduates from Yale. he states the following: “What kind of leaders will it be supplying in ten years, given its current direction?”

And its not only Yale that has lost it moorings. The following schools are also hosting sex week – Brown, Duke, Northwestern, University of Illinois, and the University of Wisconsin. They are doing so in the name of academic freedom.

Nathan says, “Our universities have lost touch with the purpose of liberal arts education, the pursuit of truth. In abandoning that mission – indeed, by denying its possibility – our institutions of higher learning are afflicted to the core.

Yes, I think I could actually state that our culture that was once shocked by all these ideas, well, we are no longer shocked any more.

Silence of the Lambs

This   morning on national television (Good Morning America) I head a report about how in California counselors were no longer going to be able to talk with teenagers about their sexual orientation. It appears that the state believes that teenagers are confused when someone tells them that it is possible to change their sexual behavior, and the state doesn’t want teenagers to be confused. Excuse me, living in California is enough in and of itself to be confused. I once heard someone refer to California as the “Land of Fruits and Nuts.” No wonder so many people are leaving the state.

The Bible tells us that we are all sinner (Rom. 3:26), and the Bible tells us that there is a wage for sin (Rom. 6:23), that wage is DEATH. You and I are going to die because of sin. We inherited sin from our parents – they were sinners and the spiritual DNA of their sin was passed down to us.

Have you ever noticed that you don’t have to teach people to do wrong, that it just comes naturally? No, what we have to do is to teach people to say “NO” to their sinful desires and behavior. This includes all kinds of sin, everything from drunkenness to homosexuality, and even to fornication (sex outside of marriage). Forget the arguments that you have for me. I’m just speaking to you about a biblical worldview. Its really that simple.

California once again has it wrong. The nannie state continues to push for all of it citizens to think alike, and to even agree that perversion is right. Woe to those who call good evil, and evil good (Isa. 5:20) Go ahead and read that verse. I dare you to.

Act of Kindness

Some men in the church came and took away my lawn mower. It was in bad shape. Wheels that were flat. A motor that wouldn’t start. A cutting deck that was broken. These men took it away. Painted it. Fixed tires. Got the motor running great and did a tune up. They also put in a new battery. I know that mowing season is upon us and feeling terrible after chemo treatment and knowing that the yard was going to need to be mowed wasn’t something I was looking forward to. Now I believe that I am ready. Thanks guys! Your act of kindness is so appreciated.
“be ye kind one to another.”

Secret Service is in the news – it appears that our own protective agents for the President of the United Sates have been very bad. Some delegates went to Columbia for a pre-event planning for an upcoming trip that Obama would be taking, and while there they rented a room that could host 30 people and they invited in prostitutes. It appears that they had sex with them (Prostitution is legal in Columbia), and then refused to pay them what they agreed to. The prostitutes went to the police, and now it is National News back home. Many have stepped down, some have taken retirement (they should be fired with no retirement), and some are under investigation. This makes me sick! Some of these men probably are husbands and fathers, and they went and cheated on their wives and children. Not to mention they disgraced America. Shame on them.

As the sayings goes: “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

Cops Dig Up Basement In Etan Patz Case

How sick too is this story. A young boy walking to school shows up missing. How many times are we going to allow these stories to happen. When will we stop these perverts dead in their tracks? This should not be taking place today. I hope that they find the body of this boy that has been missing for over 30 years, and that justice will be served on the man who killed this child. This is my point of view, but I hope you can tell that I am one angry Pastor.

Silence for Gays Teens

Each person has the right to practice their own behavior, or do they? When does an individual right violate the rights if others? If society becomes perverted, then what do the righteous do? Do we allow social pressure to determine our future? I can remember as a small child when just about everyone realized that gays (homosexuals – a term that even the elite media doesn’t use much) were abnormal. There was a time when people knew that being gay was a mental disorder. Now it is turned around and guess who has the mental disorder – straight people. We are called, homophobic. We are the ones presented with the problem. Have you ever heard the story of the frog and the kettle? You can boil a frog in a pot of water by turning up the heat a little at a time. Well, this is what the homosexuals have done, and what the media has done to American mind today. No one can think for themselves any more unless we all think alike.

Thats my rambling for today.

Those Six dreaded letters: Cancer

Well, yesterday I went to a follow up visit with the surgeon who did my biopsy last Tuesday, March 20th. When he walked into the office he was holding the pathology report. He looked at me and said, “The report says that you have low-grace (1-2) B-cell lymphoma.” I can tell you that that is not what I wanted to hear. All along I felt that I was battling with a parasite that I may have picked up in Brazil last June. Evidently, I was wrong. I hate it when I am wrong, especially in something as life-altering as this is.

I am not really sure what awaits me, but I can be positive because I serve an awesome God. I have often reminded Him, “If we being evil know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more shall our Father in heaven give of those who ask Him.” (Matt. 7:11). I have been asking my Father for good things!

This Friday I am suppose to go in for a bone marrow test. They want to check and make sure that the cancer isn’t in my bones. This will determine a treatment plan for the months to come. Aslo, I am going to be going back to the Speciality Hospital next Monday mid-afternoon for a chemo port to be placed under my skin near the coller bone. I guess you can tell the direction were heading here.

I would really request the prayers of all my family, all my friends, the churches that I have pastored in the past, and all of those who make up the wonderful church where I serve the LORD today – Spirit Lake Baptist Church.

A few thoughts that I woke up thinking this morning were: Miracles of God…

  • If God can part the Red Sea for the people of Israel to cross over on dry land, well then, my request for God to heal my lymphatic system is minor.
  • If God can allow the Sun to stand still all day for Joshua, well, then, my request for God to heal my lymphatic system is minor.
  • If King Hezekiah could pray that God would allow him to live an additional 15 years, and God answered him, well, then surely my God still have the same ability today.

My desire is to trust God no matter comes my way on a daily basis. I must not worry about tomorrow – each day has its own issues that I will face. Don’t borrow tomorrows trouble.

Here is something for all of us to think about: I Choose…

  • I choose FAITH – Without faith it is impossible to please God (Heb. 11:6).
  • I choose TRUST – Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will bring it to pass. (Prov. 3:5-6).
  • I choose BELIEF – Whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame (Rom. 10:11).
  • I choose CHRIST – Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).
  • I choose HOPE – There is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God (Heb. 7:19).
  • I choose LIFE – Therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live (Deut. 30:19).

Finally, in this post I want to remind all of us what Jesus said to Mary and Martha when He was informed that His friend Lazarus was dead. Jesus said, “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” (John 15:4).
